The substation is where a solar or wind plant meets the grid, and it is often the last scope to finish. Electrical works here are detailed and drawing-driven, so planning them early keeps commissioning on time.
Control and relay panel wiring
Control, relay and metering panels are wired to the schematic and wiring drawings. Every core is ferruled and terminated so that protection and control circuits can be tested and traced later.
Power and control cabling
Cables are laid on trays or in trenches as per the cable schedule, then glanded, terminated and labelled at both ends. Power cable terminations need the right kits and trained jointers.
Earthing and cable trays
The earthing grid, equipment earthing and lightning protection protect people and equipment. Cable trays and supports are installed before cabling so that cables are not dragged or damaged.
Transformer yard and switchyard support
Field teams support equipment erection, connect secondary wiring and make the cable connections between transformers, switchgear and panels.
Custom alterations on existing systems
Many sites need changes to panels that are already live: adding feeders, rewiring a section, or modifying cabinets. These jobs start with a site survey and a shutdown plan, and finish with updated drawings.
The most common cause of substation delay is late cable or panel material. Combine the electrical works with project procurement so one team owns the whole list.
Checklist before mobilising
- Approved schematics, wiring diagrams and cable schedule
- Material delivery plan for cables, glands, lugs and trays
- Shutdown windows for work on live systems
- Testing responsibilities and formats
